Queen's Arms |
The Queen's Arms stood at 3 Princes Road on the corner with Queen's Road. In the 1914 Valuation it was owned by Charrington's brewery. The two-storey building was described as a brick-built licensed property in very good order. The property had a slate roof and distinctive brown glazed tiles which decorated the whole of the external ground floor. There were two bars and a tap room on the ground floor of the Queen's Arms, as well as a kitchen, scullery and parlour. There were a further four rooms on the first floor.
In the 1901 Census both Arthur Levett and his wife Emily were described as beer retailers. They lived on the premises with Edgar Bourn, Arthur's stepson, who was a barman, and his niece Rose Geary.
The Queen's Arms closed as a public house in 1997; despite proposals to have it demolished, the building still stands, having been converted into private apartments in 1998.
