Sheen House

Sheen House was built in 1786 on the site of an earlier house. Among its residents were the Marquis of Ailesbury who let the house to the Prime Minister, Earl Grey in 1831. A later resident, Joshua Bates a director of Baring's bank, made it a temporary home for the French royal family after the abdication of Loius Phillippe in 1848. In 1886 the Comte and Comptesse de Paris leased the house but they were the last private residents. It became the home of the Sheen Cycling Club with a purpose-built cycling track. The club was a fashionable venue for a variety of sports including croquet.

Sheen House was demolished in 1907 with Muirdown Avenue, Shrewsbury Avenue and Richmond Park Road laid out on its grounds.
