Westhay |
Westhay was built for John Ball in the early 1870s to the east of Christ Church. In 1886 Col. Vaughan Thompson commissioned Thomas Colcutt, one of the major
exponents of the Arts and Crafts Movement in architecture, to carry out
additions at Westhay which included a new porch. This was constructed in
terracotta and was a most unusual feature. The design was exhibited at the Royal Academy in that year.
Part of the grounds were sold in 1901 for the building of the Christ Church vestry. The house was demolished in 1933 aand the site laid out as Westhay Gardens.
